Dark shaker cabinetry set against a pale quartzite island, built so the room reads warm rather than heavy.
Espresso cabinetry is the fastest way to make a kitchen feel smaller than it is, so the whole scheme was set up to push light back into the room. A pale quartzite island runs nearly the full length of the space, and an arabesque tile backsplash in soft grey keeps the wall between the counters and the uppers from going flat.
The island carries the sink and the seating, which moves the working side of the kitchen away from where people stand. The perimeter counters match the island stone so the eye reads one surface rather than two competing ones.
